Celina Cass of New Hampshire: Stepfather Breaks His Silence
The stepfather of 11-year-old Celina Cass said he believes the New Hampshire girl’s disappearance and death could be the work of an intruder who entered the family’s home through an unlocked door, according to a Granite State television interview.
Wendell Noyes says he last saw Celina working on the family computer in their West Stewartstown apartment around 9 p.m. on July 25, when he and his wife, Luisa Cass, went to bed.
"I had nothing to do with it," Noyes, 48, told WMUR-TV. "We left the door unlocked, and somebody else was in the apartment after we went upstairs."
Celina usually slept on a couch, he said, but when he got up in the morning, she was missing, so he called his wife at work.
The girl’s body was pulled from the Connecticut River, a week later. Autopsy results were inconclusive, and toxicology results have not been released.
Police seized Noyes’ truck, cellphone and computer as evidence, but no arrests have been made. Noyes says he still wears his wedding band but lives alone now because his wife has asked him to stay away.
"That’s why I’ll go on camera," he told the TV station. "I had noting to do with it. ... I’ve got nothing to hide. I was cooperative from the start.
"I care and I’d like to know who ... who’s responsible," he said on TV.
"The investigation into the facts and circumstances of Celina Cass’ murder remains active," New Hampshire Attorney General Michael A. Delaney said last month, the Herald has reported.
Cass was reported missing July 26. The girl’s body was found Aug. 1 along the Connecticut River about a quarter mile from her home in West Stewartstown, N.H., a small town near the border of Canada.
