Debra Lafave: Getting a No Plea Deal
OCALA, Fla. -- There's a snag in a former Florida teacher's plea deal on charges she had sex with a 14-year-old student.
Debra Lafave's guilty plea last month was meant to resolve charges against her in two counties. But a spokesman for the State Attorney's Office said a judge in one of the counties has balked.
The 25-year-old was sentenced to three years of house arrest and seven years probation on guilty pleas to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery.
The plea deal in Hillsborough County was supposed to cover charges in Marion County, where she's accused of having sex with the boy in a SUV while his cousin drove.
Lafave's lawyer said the Marion County judge wants to hear expert information about the impact a trial might have on the two boys.
The prosecution spokesman said lawyers will submit a new plea deal to the judge.
