Pages and Pages of Evidence
Friday afternoon, ten search warrant returns were filed with the Manitowoc County court. Within the documents are a precise list of potential evidence found on the Avery family property.
The noted chilling evidence is key that Teresa Halbach was in fact murdered on Steven Avery's property in northern Manitowoc County, then hidden before investigators scoured the area.
Contained in one paragraph of the documents: "Officers located several items of restraints within Steven Avery's residence, including handcuffs and leg irons. Your affiant [the one who files an affidavit, a written document under oath] believes these items are capable and intended for use in holding a person against their will."
Page after page reveals the DNA evidence and charred material believed to be the remains of Teresa Halbach, all found in numerous places around Steven Avery's property, including:
Handcuffs
Leg irons
Firearms and ammunition
Rags with reddish stains
Cutting instruments
A claw hammer and rubber hammer
Charred material appearing to be from a cell phone and digital camera
A partially-burned shovel
Canine searches started on Saturday, November 5, when Halbach's sport utility vehicle was found. Investigators recorded: "Teresa Halbach's body was not located within the vehicle; however a 'hit' from the cadaver dogs indicates that one time there may have been a corpse or blood in the vehicle."
The documents go on to note the amount of blood found in Teresa Halbach's Toyota Rav-4. The Wisconsin State Crime Lab "stated that technicians had located presumptive blood in the rear cargo portion of the vehicle and also in the front of the vehicle in the ignition area."
The search warrants also tell us where investigators found some of the evidence. In a trailer that was Steven Avery's home they found what appeared to be blood on the bathroom floor and near the bedroom, and also on the wood trim of the house.
Invesigators say there were seven spots on a garage floor where they believe they found blood. Shell casings were also found in that garage.
Friday, investigators were still removing ground outside the garage, layer by layer, raking it as they went. The ground was taken to another site on the property to be looked at again for evidence.
According to Sheriff Jerry Page, there are roughly ten more search warrants needing to be filed, and those pages could contain even more evidence.
