Evidence Links Peter Braunstein To Attack
Braunstein is wanted for allegedly posing as a firefighter and sexually assaulting a woman for 12 hours.
Sources tell Eyewitness News that investigators now have evidence linking Braunstein directly to the crime. N.J. Burkett has the latest.
He has not been seen since he checked himself into a Times Square hotel. Police have the last image of Peter Braunstein -- standing nervously at the front desk where he was captured on film by the hotel's security camera.
Just hours earlier, police believe he pushed his way into a Chelsea apartment, disguised as a NYC firefighter, then sexually assaulted a 34-year old woman.
Although the suspect wore an oxygen mask, then changed to a ski mask, Eyewitness News has learned that detectives have now recovered evidence linking Braunstein directly to the crime.
Law enforcement sources say horrified investigators have also uncovered links to bondage and rape fantasy web sites. After examining Braunstein's personal computer, which had been sitting in an NYPD evidence locker since his arrest three years ago for harassing a former girlfriend.
And at Fairchild Publications, where both Braunstein and the victim once worked, insiders say security remains tight.
And Eyewitness News has learned that at least one magazine editor is in hiding -- under NYPD guard tonight.
Insiders at the company tell me that at least four women have refused to come to work since Braunstein emerged as a suspect in the Halloween attack.
They're terrified because no one knows where, or when, he'll turn up.
