30 Years: "Cool Mom" Silvia Johnson
A woman who told police she had sex with teenaged friends of her children because she wanted to be a "cool mom" was sentenced to 30 years in prison after an emotional afternoon hearing in Jefferson County District Court.
Silvia Johnson, 41, had faced up to 58 years in prison on 11 charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and misdemeanor sexual assault. She told detectives she had sex with five of the boys who came to parties at her home and supplied them with drugs and alcohol.
Johnson's sentencing had to be delayed for more than a month after she was hospitalized in a car crash Sept. 25 that occurred when a 14-year-old girl was driving her car. Johnson's children were in the car, along with the 14-year-old driver and a 12-year-old boy.
Johnson faces additional charges for violating bail bond conditions and violating a protective order that bars her from having contact with her son. Douglas County is also expected to file additional charges in connection with the accident.
In the initial case, Johnson was accused of providing marijuana, methamphetamine and alcohol to eight Arvada West students, ages 14 to 17, at parties she hosted in her home between the fall of 2003 and September 2004.
Johnson told detectives that she has bipolar disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and used methamphetamine to control the symptoms.
