Former Priest Enters Plea In Child Porn Case
LEESBURG, Va. -- The Rev. Robert Brooks was pastor of Saint John the Apostle Catholic Church until a year ago, when officers in the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department charged him with possession of child pornography.
Federal customs agents allegedly found the 72-year-old former priest's name registered to a child pornography Web site in September of last year.
Brooks was indicted on state charges last February and he resigned from his ministry last October. He faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 12.
Brooks had been a priest for 44 years. Besides serving as pastor at Leesburg's Saint John's, he also served at parishes in Falls Church, Annandale, Alexandria and the Richmond suburb of Highland Springs.
Church officials said there was no evidence of sexual misconduct in his background.
