Plea Deal For Woman Who Had Sex With 8-Year-Old
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A woman accused of sexually abusing an 8-year-old boy whom police say she considered her boyfriend has reached a plea agreement, the woman's attorney said Wednesday.
Tammy Imre, 30, was arrested in November and charged with multiple offenses, including sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Her attorney, Donald Papcsy, said during a brief court appearance that Imre agreed to plead guilty to reduced charges on Sept. 19. He would not provide any details, but said the deal calls for Imre to serve less than 10 years, the mandatory minimum sentence for first-degree sexual assault.
If convicted of all charges, Imre, a part-time receptionist, could have faced over 20 years in prison. She has been in custody since her arrest on $250,000 bond.
"She should be out of jail in a relatively short period of time," Papcsy said. "She'll still be a young woman."
Prosecutors and George Ganim Jr., an attorney for the boy's mother, also confirmed the plea deal but declined to disclose details.
"My client is happy at this point Ms. Imre is finally admitting what she did to my client's son," Ganim said.
Imre may enter a plea through the Alford Doctrine, in which defendants concedes that the prosecution has enough evidence to convict, but do not admit to all the allegations, Papcsy said.
An investigation began last September after the boy's mother found a letter Imre allegedly had written to him, police said.
In the letter, police said Imre told the boy that she doesn't "want anyone but you. Now tomorrow it's supposed to rain, you can come over we can (you know what). Love ya! I want you!"
Police said the boy, the playmate of Imre's 7-year-old daughter, initially denied doing anything with Imre because he feared getting into trouble. He later told police he had sexual intercourse with her and that she gave him a key to her apartment.
When confronted, police said Imre acknowledged engaging in sexual acts with the boy. In the affidavit, Imre describes she and the boy kissing and fondling one another and being in bed together naked.
According to the arrest affidavit, she told investigators she considered the relationship "like a fantasy and she was the girlfriend and he was the boyfriend."
