Man jailed, accused of molesting 3 girls

CAMDEN -- A man who authorities say molested three young girls he knew from church was being held Thursday in Camden County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Bernardo Latimar, 67, of the 2600 block of Baird Boulevard, Camden, is charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault, three counts of sexual assault and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said. If convicted, he faces up to 65 years in prison, Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi said.

Two girls were molested in July, Sarubbi said.

An 11-year-old girl was assaulted at Latimar's home, Sarubbi said. A 12-year-old was assaulted at her home and at Camden Church of God Camino-A-Emaus at 26th and Cramer streets, Sarubbi said.

Sarubbi said another 11-year-old girl was molested at the church in 2002.

A relative of one of the victims reported the allegations this week to Camden police, who referred the matter to the prosecutor's office's Child Abuse Unit. Latimar was arrested Wednesday, Sarubbi said.
