Man gets 2nd 20-year sentence for sex abuse
EUGENE, Ore. — A former Dexter man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing and videotaping a young girl over a period of a dozen years.
John Eric Harvey, 48, routinely abused the girl in front of other younger children, according to court records.
Harvey pleaded guilty to five counts of using a child in the display of sexual conduct and nine counts of sexual abuse. In addition to the main victim, Harvey also abused another girl, according to court records.
Debra Vogt, a Lane County deputy district attorney, told Judge Lyle Velure during sentencing Friday she sought the 20-year term to ensure Harvey never gets out of prison.
Velure told Harvey his crime destroyed a childhood. "I hope you never get out of prison to victimize another child," the judge said.
