Katrina Evacuee Suspect In Acworth Rape?

ACWORTH -- A man who beat and raped an Acworth woman told her he was a Hurricane Katrina evacuee from New Orleans with nothing to lose, police said Sunday.

Investigators released a sketch of the suspect, who told the woman his family was wiped out in the hurricane, police said.

The woman was leaving for work on Tuesday morning when she encountered a knife-wielding man on her front porch, Acworth Police spokesman Wayne Dennard said.

The man beat the woman and raped her, then forced her to drive to an ATM to withdraw money. The woman jumped out of the car and ran into the bank, and the man fled in her car, police said.

The car was recovered Thursday about two miles from the bank.

The suspect is described as between 20 and 40 years old, about 5-feet 10-inches tall, and weighing 140 pounds.
