Constable Fired For Alleged Child Sex Crimes
DENTON, Texas -- A Denton County constable has been removed from office after being indicted on various child sex charges in Texas and Colorado.
Precinct 2 Constable Larry Floyd was ordered removed from his post by visiting Judge Robert Thornton on Monday.
Floyd, 61, was arrested July 28 in Canon City, Colo., after police say he made plans via e-mail to meet an 8-year-old girl, but had unwittingly contacted an undercover officer.
He was indicted in Denton County on three felony charges of possession of child pornography. He faces two to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine on each count.
In Colorado, where he is being detained on $100,000 bond, he faces one count of soliciting for child prostitution, three counts of enticement of a child and three counts of attempted sexual assault on a child.
Floyd has declined repeated requests for comment since his arrest.
The visiting judge gave Floyd 30 days to appeal the ruling. The order to remove him from the elected position, which he had held since 1992, becomes final Oct. 26. Officials said a replacement for Floyd would be appointed by county commissioners.
