Stepdad sentenced after years of sexual abuse
BOISE -- Michael Jerome Young of Nampa was sentenced Tuesday to 13 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl over a period of many years.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says he started molesting his stepdaughter when she was five and got her pregnant when she was 14-years-old.
Investigators say over the years, Michael Young had sex with his stepdaughter around 900 times.
The Nampa truck driver pleaded guilty to two counts of interstate transportation of a minor for unlawful sexual activity.
U.S. Attorney Tom Moss says that Young abused the girl in their Nampa home, but he also took her on road trips across the country in his work as a truck driver.
Investigators say the abuse escalated to intercourse when the girl was between nine and 12-years-old.
“There are a lot of bad cases out there where strangers have abducted children and do bad things to them, but this is a case where the father figure in the home was the abuser. He was not her natural father, but he was probably the only father she ever knew,” said Moss.
Moss says Young got the girl pregnant three times. When the girl turned 14 she had her first baby by him, and her mother helped cover up the abuse and pregnancies.
“She was fourteen when the baby was born and the story that was told by the parents was, when that new baby came into their home was that they had a surrogate mother give birth to this child,” said Moss.
The victim had two more children, and when she was 18, her stepfather divorced her mother, and with her consent married Young.
Because this is a federal case Young will not have any opportunity for parole.
He will spend the next 13 years in prison, and then 25 years of supervised release.
