Deputy sheriff faces 82 child-porn charges
A Delaware County deputy sheriff was charged yesterday with 82 counts of child pornography, after a monthlong investigation by county detectives.
According to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office, Joseph Swett, 42, of the 600 block of Taylor Avenue in Linwood, was arraigned in District Court and posted $100,000 bail.
Swett was suspended three weeks ago after detectives requested a search warrant and seized his computer.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Swett told detectives during an interview in Media that he used search terms on his computer normally used by people searching for child pornography on the Internet.
Authorities said he also told detectives that he had 20 videos of child pornography on his computer.
Swett's attorney, C. Scott Shields, could not be reached for comment.
According to the complaint, the detectives searched Swett's home June 1, and seized a computer and CDs. The computer and discs were transported to the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office for forensic analysis.
According to the documents, the analysis revealed that programs used to share files electronically contained 46 videos and six pictures of suspected child pornography.
Authorities found 26 additional child pornography files on an alternate hard drive and four more videos on a compact disc.
In addition to the child pornography charges, Swett was charged with 52 counts of sexual abuse of children for dissemination of child pornography and 82 counts of criminal use of a communication facility.
