Child molesters learn their fate

2 get prison terms, 1 given probation

Three area men were sentenced Monday in Allen Superior Court in unrelated child molestation cases.

In the first case, Andrew W. Bork, 29, of the 3000 block of Fairoak Drive, pleaded guilty last month to two counts of child molesting. Two other molesting charges and one count of sexual misconduct with a minor were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Judge John F. Surbeck Jr. sentenced Bork to 12 years in prison but suspended four years and ordered him to serve four years on probation. He granted Bork credit for serving84 days in jail and ordered him to perform 20 hours of community service any week he is without full-time employment.

According to a probable cause affidavit Bork began molesting the girl in 2000 and continued through 2003.

In the second case, Thomas H. Skevington, 56, of the 1400 block of Grove Drive, pleaded guilty last month to one count of child molesting for fondling a 6-year-old girl in October.

Surbeck sentenced Skevington to four years in prison but suspended the term and ordered him to complete four years on probation. Skevington earned credit for serving 47 days in jail. He must pay a $100 public defender fee and a $50 child abuse prevention fee. During probation, he also must perform 20 hours of community service any week he is without full-time employment.

A second molesting charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. A probable cause affidavit alleged Skevington was baby-sitting when he molested the 6-year-old.

In the third case, Frederick L. Elrod, 64, of the 17600 block of Second Street in Harlan, pleaded guilty to two counts of child molesting for sexual deviate conduct. A third charge, of fondling, was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Surbeck sentenced Elrod to15 years in prison but suspended nine years and ordered him to complete four years of probation. He earned credit for serving three days in jail.

A probable cause affidavit alleged Elrod performed a sex act on the toddler and had her perform a sex act on him while in her New Haven home.

All three men must follow special probation rules geared toward sexual offenders. Those rules require the men to obtain sexual perpetrator counseling and to register as a sex offender with the state’s sex offender registry.
