Woman charged for allowing older man to have sex with daughter

A 35-year-old Jackson woman faces charges after she allegedly allowed her 15-year-old daughter to have sex with an older man.

On Friday, Mary Grace Benson was arraigned on contributing to the delinquency of a minor and second-degree child abuse counts. The charges stemmed from a breaking-and-entering call at 154 Rockwell St. on March 26.

When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man having intercourse with the suspect's daughter inside a vacant apartment, Jackson Police said. The mother was also inside the unit.

"The apartment was such that the mother had to know her daughter was with the adult," said Lt. Aaron Kantor.

When questioned, the woman told officers she couldn't keep her daughter away from the man.

So, as she explained, she brought the girl to the man, "so she could monitor (the relationship)," Kantor said. Drug paraphernalia was also found inside the vacant structure.

Brandon Travis Kitts, 20, of Jackson was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Like Benson, he was also charged with entering a dwelling without owner permission, a 90-day misdemeanor. He was being held in the county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash surety bond.

Kitts has a plea hearing at 9 a.m. Monday before Circuit Court Judge Chad Schmucker.

The girl, whose name was not released, was placed with a relative by the Department of Human Services, Kantor said.

Benson was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant early Thursday morning.

Her personal bond was set at $2,500 and a preliminary exam at 9:30 a.m. May 3 before District Judge R. Darryl Mazur.
