Pig leads authorities to arrest
Police who drove out to a Collinsville home last year to chase down a stray pig ran across sexually explicit photographs of a man and an underage girl. The photographs led police to the girl and then to 53-year-old Donald W. Dosett, who on Thursday pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
Dosset received 20 years in prison and Circuit Judge Ann Callis sentenced him to an additional 15 years on one count of child pornography. The sentences will run concurrently, however, and Dosset will be eligible for parole in 17 years.
Authorities were alerted to the abuse early in 2004 after Collinsville police accompanied animal control workers to a vacant house on Vine Street where a pig had been reported running loose in the yard, said Madison County Assistant State's Attorney Neil Schroeder. When the pig, which Schroeder described as weighing more than 200 pounds, was finally captured, police returned to the station and the workers began chasing a stray cat and several other animals. The animals led them into the trash-strewn basement, where authorities say they ran across the open scrapbook.
Police were summoned to the house again and officers were able to identify the girl, who was between 5 and 8 years old at the time the photos were taken. She was interviewed later, as a 12-year-old, at the Madison County Child Advocacy Center, in Wood River.
She reportedly told investigators that she remembered having the photos taken with Dosset.
Schroeder said that while the girl's mother was at work she had allowed Dosset to babysit the girl during the day. The abuse took place between July of 1997 and July of 2000
Dosset had no criminal history before the arrest.
