Man Went To Texas To Pick Up Boy For Sex

FORT LAUDERDALE -- Police said a man accused of luring a 14-year-old boy to his home for sex went all the way to Texas to pick him up.

Bobby Minnis, 42, was arrested, accused by police of luring a boy to his home in Fort Lauderdale and having sex with him 10 times over the course of several days.

Police have now said the alleged teen victim was from Austin, Texas. On April 8, police said, the boy's parents reported him missing and said that he was possibly in Fort Lauderdale with a man.

Police said further investigation revealed that to be true.

Police said the boy was with Minnis, who is now in county lockup. Minnis claims that he is innocent of the charges.

Investigators said Minnis initiated contact with the boy over the Internet a year ago.

Officials said further investigation revealed that Minnis went to Austin on April 8 to bring the boy back to his house, where Minnis is accused of engaging in sex with the boy.

Minnis' family said they were unaware of any disturbing activities in their home.

Minnis was arrested on Friday as he and the child were leaving the home, police said.

Minnis pleaded with the court to be lenient and reduce his bond from $100,000 because he said he has a family to raise. Minnis' request was denied.

Minnis has been charged with 10 counts of lewd or lascivious battery against the 14-year-old boy.
