Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Male Student
DOUGLAS COUNTY - A teacher from Ponderosa High School posted bond Friday, a day after she was arrested for allegedly having sex with one of her students. The 16-year-old boy says the sex was consensual.
According to court documents Nicole Barnhart, 35, admitted to having sex with one of her male students -- once in her van and another time at her home. This allegedly happened while she was counseling the student for drug and alcohol abuse.
Barnhart lives in Highlands Ranch. She is married with two children. She started working for Douglas County schools in 1995. She had been at Ponderosa High since 2002.
The teen allegedly told his younger brother and a friend about the relationship and that's what led to Barnhart's arrest.
Even though the teen says the sex was a consensual, since he is a minor, the relationship would still be illegal. Barnhart faces felony child sex assault charges including sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse.
