School Bus Driver Charged With Sexual Assault

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- A school bus driver is accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl and possessing child pornography.

Arlington Heights police charged Gary Wayman, 58, of the 800 block of North Walnut Avenue in the northwest suburb, with one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of the girl.

Wayman was arrested at his home Wednesday, where police seized two computers containing about 200 images of child pornography, according to Arlington Heights Police Lt. Michael Miljan.

Bond was set Friday at $250,000, Miljan said.

Wayman is accused of abusing the girl from 2001 until August 2004. The girl told a staff member on Feb. 1, who notified the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Miljan said.

DCFS then notified police.

Wayman had been employed as a bus driver by Davidsmeyers Bus Service, Inc. in Elk Grove Village since August 2002, according to Miljan. The victim did not come into contact with Wayman while driving a bus, Miljan said.

Wayman has been on a leave of absence since Jan. 26 because of a wrist injury, Miljan said.

The lieutenant did not know the specific routes to which Wayman was assigned, nor did he know the school that the victim attended.

Wayman has no prior arrests, according to Miljan.

Miljan did not know if there were any additional victims or charges filed. The investigation is ongoing.
