Kern sheriff's sergeant arrested on molestation charges

A Kern County sheriff's sergeant was arrested just after midnight Wednesday by Bakersfield police on multiple felony charges of child molestation, according to jail records.

Mike Lackey, 56, was booked into jail on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child and lewd acts with a child, according to jail records. His bail was set at $1 million.

Lackey has worked for the Sheriff's Department for more than 20 years and in areas including Lamont area patrol, financial crime and rural crime. His current assignment is as a detective sergeant.

Lackey's court appearance was tentatively set for 3 p.m. Thursday.
