Sexual abuse of children/possession, distribution of child pornography

ST. MARYS - The Ridgway-based State Police report investigating an incident of sexual abuse of children/possession, distribution of child pornography.

According to police, Yahoo! Inc. made four separate reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children via their Cybertipline (www.cybertipline.com) reporting that images of child pornography were being uploaded to their servers. The images were captured and the site was immediately blocked by Yahoo! Inc. In all, approximately 70 images were uploaded to Yahoo! Inc. servers.

NCMEC then forwarded the reports to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), located in Delaware County, where court orders were obtained and subsequently served upon Yahoo! Inc. and a local Internet service provider. It was learned that all four reports were in fact the same person uploading the files in each instance. The investigation was referred to Tpr. D. Matthew Powell of the Pennsylvania State Police, Area IV, Computer Crime Task Force.

A search warrant was obtained and served on Monday, Dec. 13, at a residence at 110 Race Street, St. Marys, occupied by Scott Alan Rhoads, 28. A computer system and other storage media and related equipment were seized. The seized computer and storage media will be analyzed by the PSP Computer Crime Unit to determine if images of child pornography are present and if they are the same images uploaded to Yahoo! during Sept. 24 and Nov. 5, 2004.

The investigation is continuing
