Towson man charged with sex abuse of girls

Baltimore County police have charged a man with sexually abusing three girls in the Towson area.

Raymond Paul Smith, 50, of the 300 block of Old Trail, has been charged with three counts each of child abuse, sexual abuse of a minor and third-degree sex offense. He is also charged with a second-degree sex offense, a perverted practice and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense.

Smith was a Sunday school teacher at Cockeysville Baptist Church.

According to a 10-year-old, Smith sexually assaulted her at his house about a year ago, police said. Police learned of two more alleged victims of Smith during the investigation.

One of the other girls, age 11, said she was assaulted by Smith a few months ago. Detectives spoke with the third victim, also 10 years old, who said Smith had touched her inappropriately.

Smith is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center after being denied bail.

Anyone who knows of additional alleged victims or has any information about Smith is asked to call Detective Judy Duncan at the Baltimore County Police Department's Family Crimes Unit.
