Orem man accused of sexual abuse in his family
Justin Hill -- DAILY HERALD
A special-education teacher at Provo High School has been placed on administrative leave after police say he sexually abused family members over several years.
Dan J. Kaighn, 47, was booked last week into the Utah County Jail on four counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, four counts of rape of a child and two counts of child sodomy.
According to a statement released Tuesday by the Provo City School District, investigating officers have confirmed none of the district's students are involved in any of the charges filed against Kaighn.
The teacher has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation of the charges.
"There's still more things that are coming forth," said Provo Police Detective Dan Dove, who added that if the accusations have merit, "It's a pretty bad case. It's been going on for a while."
The incident was still under investigation Tuesday, and there could be more charges, Dove said.
The current booking charges stem from events that allegedly happened within the last three or four months in Utah County, Dove said.
Dove was planning on filing the case with the Utah County Attorney's Office today.
Kaighn was also served with a protective order, Dove said.
