Former day care worker admits sex abuse

MEMPHIS, Tenn. A former day-care employee who continued working with children even though he had been accused of sex abuse was sentenced today to 50 years in prison with no chance of parole.

Thirty-year-old Ivan Ward pled guilty to three charges of child rape, 21 charges of aggravated sexual battery and one charge of attempted sexual battery.

The victims were boys and girls between 6 and 12 years old who were under Ward's supervision at the Merryland Child Care Center and the Joyland Day Care and Learning Center.

The attacks occurred between 1997 and last year.

The allegations against Ward became public last year after he was fired from Merryland. Parents later came forward to say Ward also was accused of abusing children at Joyland where he had previously worked.
