International Child Porn Ring Raids Across Australia
Hundreds of police raided homes across Australia to smash an international Internet child porn ring, federal officers said today.
In a brief statement, the Australian Federal Police said it had searched hundreds of homes in its largest ever child porn operation.
Officers scheduled a press conference for later today to release details of the operation, which was carried out by the Australian High Tech Crime Centre and followed an investigation launched in March.
The Australian national newspaper reported today that police seized hundreds of computers containing images of child abuse and charged dozens of people, following a tip off from US authorities earlier this year.
Child welfare agency Child Wise, part of an international campaign to end the exploitation and sexual abuse of children, hailed the reported success of the operation.
