HURRICANE FRANCES - Internet Withdrawals

I just experienced Hurricane Frances here - in West Palm Beach, Florida

No injuries - thank God. I lost power since September 3rd at 9 a.m. and power was returned September 15th at Noon. That's 12 long days - and 3 hours. A lot of damage to the house and property and neighborhood. Luckily no injuries/deaths - nor rain or water into the house.

I've been thru many Hurricanes throughout my life - but none that left the duration of loss of power so devastating. I must tell you - that a person with Congestive Heart Failure and who is in need of a Heart Transplant; it was a very difficult experience without air conditioning for 12 days.

Yes - I had a generator - but I didn't have the strength to start it nor fill it with the 5 gallon containers of gas. My Son came to the rescue - Neighbors helped. So I was able to have the refrigerator and watch TV on occasion - and have a fan on me. But no Air-Conditioning and after 12 days of 90 degree weather - it takes it's toll. I lost 10 pounds - which I could afford to lose anyways.

God was good to me.

Out of the blue - I get online - and this is the very first time that this has happened to me - since I opened up my site - I received a donation from a woman - "N" from Oregon - you know who you are :-) - for $200

My Heart is overwhelmed specifically because I have been trying to put together $150 for an ISBN number - so that I can publish my book.

So - Thank You "N" for being my first Donator - and for your generousity. For every day that my Heart pumps I will thank you - for helping me and other Adult Survivors of Sexual Child Abuse.

I have a lot of anger inside of me - for the uncaring attitude of the Agencies that are supposed to listen to us Disabled. I had a Cell Phone to use and called 4 places to try to get assistance for the power outage - due to my health condition. Zero help.

Even the Department of Emergency Management in the City of West Palm Beach, Florida - was useless. Florida Light and Power is going to get a rude awakening from this Storm. Their inefficiency with taking care of a long standing program of reducing trees and foliage from having contact with power lines - borders Criminality.

Hurricane Frances was a Vegitation and a foliage storm. We didn't have power poles knocked down - we had unnecessary power lines lost from tree limbs and branches - that should have been cleared away from power lines - as an ongoing program for the past 50 years. Shame - shame on you FL&P. You made a lot of lives miserable.

I was fortunate in that I didn't have to go to a shelter. I would not have been able to bring my love - Sabrina. She was traumatized by the Hurricane naturally - and she needed constant reassurance that things would be fine. They won't let dogs into shelters. She - kept me worried but constantly strong - so that I could survive.

Now - back to our regularly scheduled programing...
