Sexual-abuse charges filed against pair involving girl

Mesa police arrested the mother of a 12-year-old girl and accused her of doing nothing to stop the girl from having sex with the mother's boyfriend.
The girl revealed the 2-year-old sex act Wednesday to a neighbor, who called police. Joseph Comaduran, 57, admitted the sex act, according to court documents released Thursday.
"Defendant said he knew it was wrong and that he wasn't in his right mind," the court document said.
Comaduran and his girlfriend, Alma Cota, 46, were arrested by police Wednesday and were arraigned Thursday by West Mesa Justice of the Peace Clayton Hamblen.
Hamblen ordered Comaduran held without bond on charges of sexual conduct with a minor, indecent exposure and sexual abuse.
The judge also ordered Cota held on $1 million bond on child abuse and failure to report child abuse charges.
As she left the courthouse in handcuffs, Cota denied she gave Comaduran and her daughter permission to have sex, but Mesa police Sgt. Chuck Trapani said she told a detective a much different story.
"The mother said she couldn't do anything about it, so she went to work," he said.
Trapani said Comaduran and the girl approached Cota together and told her about their plan to have sex.
"The detective said the mother showed no remorse," he said.
The girl, now 14, was living with Cota and Comaduran at a Mesa apartment complex in the 600 block of North Country Club Drive. He said the girl was turned over to state Child Protective Services when the couple were arrested.
Cota and Comaduran are not married but have been in a relationship for 12 years, Trapani said. Comaduran had no comment as detectives led him away to jail.
