A 27-year-old Reno man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl and downloading child pornography on his home computers, according to the Reno police sex crimes and child abuse unit.
Steven William Wiegand, 6060 Silver Lake Road, was booked July 5 into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of lewdness with a minor under 14 and possession of child pornography. He was booked additionally Wednesday on four more counts of suspicion of possession of child pornography and held in lieu of $22,000 bail after detectives recovered child pornography downloaded on several of his home computers, said Sgt. Kim Bradshaw.
Bradshaw said the girl and a 12-year-old girl reported July 5 that Wiegand a month earlier had inappropriately touched the 13-year-old girl in his home. She said the girl knew him.
When Wiegand was arrested July 5, Bradshaw said he had a pornographic picture of a child in his pocket. Detectives armed with a search warrant seized several computers that were examined for child pornography. Bradshaw said it appeared child pornography was downloaded from Internet sites and was not of any local children.
Wiegand listed his employment as a security guard at the Peppermill Hotel-Casino.
Detectives ask anyone with information to contact the sex crimes/child abuse unit at 325-8040 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
